Support for Children, Young People and Families

Support for Children, Young People and Families

Children and young people can experience difficulties with emotions, behaviour, relationships, learning, development, school, identity and change. Sometimes a family knows exactly what they would like help with; at other times, the first step is making sense of what has been happening.

At our Ivanhoe clinic, we provide therapy and psychological assessments for children, teenagers and young adults aged 4–25. Support is tailored to the person’s developmental stage, communication style and individual needs. Parents and carers may also be involved so that strategies can be understood and used beyond the consulting room.

Starting with MCPC

Finding suitable psychological support involves more than choosing an appointment time. When you contact MCPC, we ask for some initial information about the person seeking support and the reason for the enquiry. This helps our team consider the relevant service and psychologist.

If you are seeking therapy, the first appointment provides an opportunity to discuss current concerns, relevant history and goals for support. The structure of appointments may vary according to the young person’s age and circumstances.

If you are seeking an assessment, the process will depend on the type of assessment required. Our team will explain the expected stages and provide relevant information before you proceed.

Medicare and NDIS Information

MCPC psychologists are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and eligible clients may receive Medicare rebates with an appropriate referral from a GP, paediatrician or psychiatrist.

Self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants are welcome. Ivanhoe reception can explain current fees, rebates, funding arrangements and the documentation needed for your appointment.
